Under the direction of Lake County State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim, the State’s Attorney’s Office designed Alternative Prosecution Programs. These programs offer first time, non-violent offenders who, in exchange for accepting responsibility for their criminal conduct, have the opportunity to keep a conviction from being permanently entered on their record. The programs give deserving defendants a second chance to improve their lives, and to avoid the stigma of a criminal conviction. For more information please view the Alternative Prosecution Program Brochure (PDF) for felonies. There is also more information on the Misdemeanor Alternative Prosecution Program.
