Adolescent suicide is a major public health problem. One of the most widely-used strategies to prevent youth suicide is school-based "gatekeeper training", where teachers, school staff and administrators are trained to recognize warning signs of youth suicide and assist with the referral of at-risk kids to a mental health professional. The “Project Safety N.E.T.” Training Program is offered to schools by Dr. John Jochem of Hawthorn Counseling Group. This is a free, one-hour training event conducted on-site in schools which gives educators the tools they need to intervene with students of concern. I encourage school administrators to make use of this program and highly recommend that they contact Dr. Jochem at firstname.lastname@example.org or http://www.hawthorncounseling.com to schedule training for staff. Dr. Jochem's presentation is available below.
