A digital orthophoto is a computer-generated image of an aerial photograph in which image displacement caused by terrain relief and camera tilts has been removed. It combines the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map.

All of this digital aerial photography can be viewed and printed using Maps Online. This aerial photography is also available for viewing and printing in the Planning, Building, and Development Department’s Planning Resource Center.

The countywide digital aerial photography compact discs may be purchased for $50. The purchase price is not refundable. A defective disc may be exchanged for a replacement disc for the same product at no charge.
The Lake County Planning, Building, and Development Department’s Planning Resource Center maintains a countywide collection of aerial photography dating from 1939. This photography is in a variety of formats including paper, Mylar, and contact prints. Contact the Resource Librarian at (847) 377-2140 to arrange an appointment to view the photography and/or order prints.
United States Geological Survey digital orthophotos (DOQs) are available for Lake County for 1993 and also for 1998/99. These images can be obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey or they can be downloaded from the Illinois Natural Resources Geospatial Data Clearinghouse.
Illinois Historical Aerial Photography images for selected counties are also available to view and download at the Illinois Natural Resources Geospatial Data Clearinghouse.
These are individual photographic images in MrSID compression format. The images are not georeferenced.
Individual Lake County municipalities may have digital aerial photography available. Check with the municipality in your geographic area of interest.
