 Who We Are

The Lake County Radio Department provides radio maintenance and support services to County and other local government public safety and public service agencies. Over 1,400 mobile, portable and base radios are maintained on an annual basis. The department also maintains the county’s new 800 MHz trunked radio system providing over 500 square miles of reliable portable radio communications. Other services include license renewals, mobile radio and electronic installations, interference detection and radio programming.

Located at the County’s Libertyville Campus, a team of radio repair and electronic technicians are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. to meet the needs of those that require their services.

For over 60 years the Radio Department has dedicated itself to reliable and dependable radio maintenance and support services. That dedication continues today with the addition of the new state of the art 800 MHz trunked radio system. The radio system is considered one of the best in the Midwest providing its users with over 500 square miles of portable radio coverage.
The ability for public safety and public service agencies to become more efficient and more effective increases as technologies advance. The County’s radio system uses the latest in “State-Of-The-Art” radio communications technology, is completely upgradeable and supports additional technologies as they develop.

The tragedy of September 11 has redefined “Homeland Security” and the need for radio interoperability between public safety agencies has become a number one priority. The County’s radio system is designed to support interoperability between agencies. Presently the system can communicate with local, state and federal authorities through mutual aid and repeater link frequencies. Because of its wide area coverage, the County's radio system is a logical choice for providing interoperability communications to the communities of Lake County.

The Radio Department is proud to support those agencies that serve and protect the residents of Lake County.
