Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine. The 2010-2011 flu vaccine will protect against three flu viruses: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season. Flooding - A Coordinated Response Lake County has an abundance of water bodies and while these are tremendous resources, they also can present a threat when significant rain causes flooding. In 2008, some Lake County communities along the Fox River and Chain O'Lakes were declared disaster areas after flood waters damaged more than 400 structures. During a flood, and any emergency, Lake County departments work together to provide resources and deliver services to meet the needs of residents.

As kids say good-bye to summer vacation and head back to school, the Health Department is reminding parents to help prevent the spread of illness in classrooms by following basic health guidelines. In particular, make sure your children are up to date on their immunizations and sports physicals, and receive an annual flu shot. Also, make sure they have plenty of rest and a nutritious diet to help them fight germs.

The Health Department now offers a new text message service that provides free health messages for new and expectant moms. The program provides all pregnant women and new moms with information they need to take care of their health and give their babies the best possible start in life.
Expired and Unused Drug Disposal The Health Department has joined P2D2, the Prescription Pill and Drug Disposal Program of Highland Park, which is working to keep prescription drugs out of the water supply and out of the hands of children. Read more about the program.
The 18th annual Kids 1st Health Fair was a success. The August 4th event served a total of 1,200 children. More than 800 volunteers made the Fair possible by providing numerous services.
